Criminal Counter: 6. The culprit this time?
Bears RB Cedric Benson has been arrested for the second time in just under two months, this time for drunken driving. The back was arrested in Austin, Texas, and has possibly put his future in jeopardy. And, I don't mean just with the Bears either. If the NFL does not suspend Benson, it would be an atrocity! I mean, Comissioner Goodell has suspended everyone else who gets into trouble, and Benson has now been arrested twice in the past two months. This needs to result in at least a four game ban.
Bears GM Jerry Angelo has already said the team may be going in another direction now, and why wouldn't they? Benson hasn't shown enough on (or off) the field for them to put up with his bad behavior. Also, the team drafted rookie Matt Forte from Tulane, and he is supposedly built to be an every down back. Now, the team would likely add a new veteran RB to start at first, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Forte is starting by Thanksgiving.
As for Benson, it might be a long time before he sees a NFL field again. How many teams would jump for a back who hasn't lived up to hiis potential on the field, and is now causing massive problems off it. Not many, in case you were confused. Benson had better behave...look how Pac Man is coming along. Maybe we can set up a locker for Benson in Dallas with all the other ex-cons.
In other news:
-> Patriots DE Jarvis Green has undergone arthriscopic surgery on his shoulder, which will limit his time in OTAs and mini-camps. The surgery was minor, and he is expected to be ready by training camp.
-> Chargers QB Philip Rivers has made a miraculous recovery from his offseason surgery that repaired his torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament --- knee). Rivers is now practising at full speed, only five months after the injury occurred in a playoff game against Indianapolis.
-> Jets TE Chis Baker is "injured" and sat out of mini-camps over the weekend. There is speculation if the injury is legit, as he has been disgruntled with the team over his contract. I guess we shall see how this develops. I mean, NFLers don't fake injuries...do they?
-> And, Giants TE Jeremy Shockey has done something that we haven't seen since the last time he did it: pointed the finger at someone else. Shockey claims that is ths Giants fault he is unhappy with his situation, and he should not be held responsible. Wow...typical Shockey. Typical Giants for that matter. Guess he learned from the best (remember Tiki Barber, Michael Strahan, and so on). How bout them Giants...
