A Sad Day in the Dallas Cowboys Business

This is not the blog to read if you want to have me bash the decision to cut Terrell Owens.

I am sad becuase they cut my favourite Strong Safety Roy Williams.

Yes he did have the occaisional lapse in pass coverage, but it was pretty clear the Cowboys missed him in defending the run. I do recall a certain Saturday night game against Baltimore where the boys had two comeback efforts halted by long TD runs. Could Roy Williams have made those tackles...better than Ken Hamlin did.

Oh well, I geuss it's time to mourn the loss of another great Cowboys safety...like Darren Woodson before him.

Also, as if the two aforementioned moves weren't dumb enough, why not trade for one of the QBs that helped the Lions go 0-16 a season ago. When I heard the boys got Jon Kitna, I was OK with it. But, when I found out they traded Anthony Henry for him, that's when I got a bit perturbed. Oh well, why not blow up our secondary? Henry was supposed to be the missing link at safety, now he, Williams and Pac Man are all gone and there is very little depth in the secondary.

I like Keith Brooking, I really do, but he is just another Zach Thomas to come in and likely leave before long. It's about time they give Bobby Carpenter a longer look, but who am I to talk? Also, fellow LB Matt Stewart was added for more depth.

Hmmmm. A team now in need of WRs and DBs signs to LBs, a position where they were already loaded? Ridiculous.

Oh, back to Owens now.

Good move from a locker room perspective, but they will feel the loss on the field. Unless of course Roy Williams (WR) can step up after the massive trade a season ago. Also, fellow starter Patrick Crayton must get rid of his bad habit of dropping everything thrown his way. I do expect the boys to draft a new guy at WR, but I like what I have seen from depth guys Sam Hurd and Miles Austin.

This is supposed to be the offseason to rebuild and recycle spare parts. So far, we have only jettisoned Pro Bowlers and replaced them with aging LBs.

Oh, to be a Cowboys fan.

On another note...

Kudos to the Chiefs for becoming a contender. Yes, a PLAYOFF Contender. They needed a QB, they got one in Matt Cassel. They needed a solid LB, they got one in Mike Vrabel. Now all they need to make a push is Larry Johnson to shut his mouth and run the football. Oh, and another solid WR and DB.

Until next time...
